Hosting a Brain-Centered Horsemanship Clinic

Thank you for your interest in bringing Horse of a Different Color to your facility!

Brain-Centered Horsemanship™ clinics combine easy-to-understand brain and learning science with hands-on work with horses. We teach participants how horses learn, what drives behavior, how emotional state affects learning, and how small changes in communication, timing, and feedback can make a big difference.

Then we take that information into the arena and put it to work through groundwork, problem solving, and obstacle work both in-hand and riding. Participants learn to recognize what their horse is communicating, understand why certain behaviors may be happening, and make changes in real time to help the horse become safer, more confident, and more willing.

Our clinics are open to all disciplines and experience levels. Riders and auditors both take part in the learning, and everyone leaves with practical tools they can use with their own horses long after the clinic is over.

Facilities Needed

To ensure a smooth, safe, and educational clinic experience, hosts must provide:

Indoor or covered arena large enough to comfortably accommodate up to 12 horses
(80’ x 168’ or larger is ideal)
Stalls for outside participants
(stall and/or jump-out fees are payable directly to the facility)
A heated room or indoor space for lecture portions
(for colder months; must allow participants to sit, take notes, and move around without horses)
Ample parking for trailers, clinic participants, and auditors
Restrooms and/or Port-a-Potty available on site
2 or more volunteers (help with parking, adjusting ground poles/obstacles, etc.; volunteers may audit at no charge)
Obstacle Requirements:
- A minimum of 12 ground poles
- A few large, sturdy wooden obstacles (e.g., bridges, platforms, or boxes)
- Horse of a Different Color will bring all additional obstacles when traveling by truck and trailer.
- If flying, the host must provide all obstacles, including wooden obstacles and ground poles.

Host Responsibilities

Hosts agree to:

Sign a Clinic Host Agreement
Pay a $100 non-refundable deposit to secure the date
Advertise the event within their horse community (social media, barn boards, websites, local groups, etc.)
Ensure each participant signs a liability release form
Provide water for participants, horses, and clinicians
Provide parking space for Jenn’s truck and trailer
Provide 1–2 stalls for Jenn’s horse(s) at no charge
Provide tables for promotional and retail items

Clinic Fees and Options

Brain-Centered Horsemanship™ Clinic w/Jenn Currie

CLINIC FEE: $900 per clinic day, plus agreed travel expenses and accommodations

Led by Jenn Currie, creator and primary clinician of Brain-Centered Horsemanship™. This is the full Brain-Centered Horsemanship clinic experience, including instruction, demonstrations, hands-on horse work, groundwork, problem solving, obstacle work, and mounted work when appropriate.

Two-Clinician Team

Includes Jenn Currie and Wendy Shaffer, Masterson Method Certified Practitioner

CLINIC FEE: $1,600 per clinic day, plus agreed travel expenses and accommodations

Wendy adds a hands-on component focused on helping participants slow down, observe their horse’s subtle responses, read body language, and practice Principles of Least Resistance through the Masterson Method Bladder Meridian, with participants practicing with their own horses.

Clinics may be scheduled for one or two days. For longer-distance clinics, a two-day format often makes the most financial sense because of travel and accommodation costs are spread over two clinic days.

HOW REGISTRATION FUNDS WORK

All rider and auditor registration fees are collected directly by Horse of a Different Color . This allows us to communicate directly with participants, provide clinic information and materials, answer questions, and make sure everyone is prepared before the event.

Registration funds are applied toward the clinic fee, agreed travel expenses, and accommodations.

Any registration income remaining after those agreed expenses are covered is paid to the host.

MILEAGE

For clinics within driving distance (generally up to 500 miles)

$0.80 per mile round trip from Greenville, PA, paid from clinic registration funds.

PLANNING YOUR CLINIC COSTS

Horse of a Different Color will work with hosts to set rider and auditor pricing and attendance goals so that registration income can cover the clinic fee, agreed travel expenses, and accommodations.

The goal is for clinic registrations to fund the clinic, rather than for the host to pay the clinic fee out of pocket.

Hosts may also structure their event so that paid registrations help offset or fully cover spots for staff, volunteers, or other host-selected participants.

HOST INCOME

Hosts collect and retain 100% of the facility-related fees such as:

Stall fees
Haul-in or day-use fees
Sawdust or shavings fees
RV, camping, or overnight fees
Other agreed-upon facility fees

For example, 10 stalls at $35 per day would generate $350 per day in facility income for the host.

MINIMUM RIDER REQUIREMENT

We generally look for at least 8 paid riders. If fewer than eight paid riders are registered, proceeding with the clinic will be by mutual agreement between Horse of a Different Color and the clinic host.

**If total rider and auditor registration income does not cover the clinic fee, agreed travel expenses and accommodations, the host is responsible for the remaining balance.**

DEPOSIT

A $100 non-refundable deposit and signed host agreement are required to secure a clinic date.

The deposit is applied toward the clinic total. Horse of a Different Color begins promoting the clinic once the deposit and signed agreement are received.

FLY-IN CLINICS

For locations more than 500 miles from Greenville, PA, agreed travel expenses may include round-trip airfare, ground transportation, meals while traveling.

Accommodations are also required unless suitable lodging is provided by the host.

These expenses are paid from registration funds. Host may provide lodging or airport transportation to help reduce overall costs.

HOST INCENTIVES

In addition to the financial benefits described above, host may request:

One complimentary rider spot
A limited number of complimentary auditor spots for staff, volunteers, local trainers, clients, or other host-selected participants

Our goal is to make hosting worthwhile for everyone involved. We work with you to structure rider and auditor pricing so that registrations can fund the clinic, travel, and accommodations whenever possible, while giving the host the opportunity to earn income from both the event and their facility.

Cancellation Policies

The clinic host agrees to provide notice of cancellation as follows:

90 days prior to the event for clinics requiring air travel
60 days prior to the event for clinics requiring travel by truck

If an event is canceled after airfare has been purchased, the host must reimburse Horse of a Different Color for any airline cancellation fees.

If a clinic must be canceled or postponed by Horse of a Different Color due to weather, travel restrictions, or other unforeseeable circumstances, your deposit will be transferred to a rescheduled date or applied to another available clinic within the same calendar year.

Participant Cancellation Policy

All clinic spots must be paid in full at the time of registration.

Cancellation 30+ days prior to the clinic:
Full refund minus processing fees
Cancellation 14–29 days prior to the clinic:
50% refund minus processing fees
Cancellation within 14 days of the clinic:
Non-refundable
